Run over an idea and then, it will happen…!!!
I am going for a run tomorrow morning!
I am surely doing the full marathon this year!
I am going to start work on my idea!
I am going to save a lot of money for this one!
Every year, the new year eve brings these hidden thoughts to fore and come the night of January 1, they are gone!
The idea of running and that of converting an idea into reality probably have so much in common.
Keep on thinking, keep on planning and then….it doesn’t happen!
Put that 5 AM alarm again, think fresh again, refine the idea again…..still, it doesn’t happen!
Your neighbor did a full marathon yesterday and your uncle’s son is heading a growing startup!
I am still planning. I am still plotting.
I am afraid of injuries. I am afraid of discomfort. I am afraid of losing. I am afraid of failure. This is not for me. I can’t do it.
Then it happened……..
After 5 days of waking up to that dreaded 5 AM alarm and dozing off again, I finally had the toothbrush in my hand at 5:05. T-Shirt, running shorts, sweatband, red socks, and orange shoes. They all came out. My body went inside all of them.
A heavy heart and a tired mind were looking for an excuse. Why there are no rains today? That could have been a great excuse! The street lights are also on! Every damn thing is planning against me, they want me to go out and run!!!
The orange hue of street lamps, dogs barking, a couple of labors stretching their legs and I hesitantly made some weird stretching moves.
Felt like the whole world just got up to watch me!
Ok. Enough of this. Took a couple of running strides, then 10 more, 50 more and then I was feeling comfortable. So, let’s take some long and fast strides. O..O….Not a good move! Too early. Breathing went from slow to fast and legs became heavy.
Yes, first step is critical but same is with first errors!
You will always remember your first try, your first run and so you should remember the first injury too.
Patience and practice is always the key. You can’t run a 42 without doing 21s and grilling yourself with all the morning drills.
Yes, those static stretching hurts. Yes, those planks make me cry. Yes, doing a boat is toughest. But I do it. I want to taste those tears of joy at that Full Marathon finishing line.
Running feels like a life lesson. It pains, it hurts, its joy, its fun and each day you feel like making those steps and improving an inch. Yes, I will cover that distance inch by inch.
“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all-in which case you fail by default.”- J.K.Rowling
Idea 1, Idea 2, Idea 4……..they all are waiting to come out of the closet. They all are like your T-shirt, your shorts, your sweatband, and your shoes. They need those pair of feet to take them together and run.
Put on those pair of glasses with running written all over. Do you want to taste the first smell of your idea? Remind yourself of those running days when it all started. Soon, your feet will start moving!
Afraid to put feet inside your shoes of ideas? Treat running as a lesson and soon you will realize that:
- Thinking and plotting on paper doesn’t help much!
- First months will be tough. Pain, blisters, frustration but…….wait and take rest and then recover.
- Guidance and Group helps. Feedback is essential to improve your performance.
- There are no finishing lines. We need challenges after challenges. 5K, 10K, half marathon, then full, then 50K, Ironman and so on. Efforts will not stop!
- Resources are scarce, energy needs to be conserved.
- Have fun while running with your idea.
- Set goals but be prepared for unexpected.
- Tracking progress is as critical as preparation.
That diary full of ideas must surely be lying somewhere. Bring that out. Yes, they all will seem impractical in the beginning!
Everything is planning against you! That salary cheque is a drug pill! Yes, you are afraid! Yes, you are worried! Ya! you might lose that hard earned money and Ya! they all will laugh at you!!!
Get up to your idea. Have discussions, meet people, work hard over it, make those odd moves.
Then, it will happen……!!!!
Your ideas can take any shape. Starting a daily journal or training for a new sport or going for a swimming lesson or learning a musical instrument or writing a book or working on your passion or holding those lovely hands again or even starting a new business!
Every incremental change that you do in your life is an Idea.
Live with it, nurture it, have patience with all the pains, fail and then, it will happen…...!!!!
